Psalm 108

God Speaks

A song. A psalm of David.

My heart is confident in you, O God;
no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!
Wake up, lyre and harp!
I will wake the dawn with my song.
I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.
I will sing your praises among the nations.
For your unfailing love is higher than the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.
May your glory shine over all the earth.

Now rescue your beloved people.
Answer and save us by your power.
God has promised this by his holiness:
“I will divide up Shechem with joy.
I will measure out the valley of Succoth.
Gilead is mine,
    and Manasseh, too.
Ephraim, my helmet, will produce my warriors,
and Judah, my scepter, will produce my kings.
But Moab, my washbasin, will become my servant,
and I will wipe my feet on Edom
and shout in triumph over Philistia.”

10 Who will bring me into the fortified city?
Who will bring me victory over Edom?
11 Have you rejected us, O God?
Will you no longer march with our armies?
12 Oh, please help us against our enemies,
for all human help is useless.
13 With God’s help we will do mighty things,
for he will trample down our foes.

We Respond

Reflection:

To reader: Consider the following questions regarding Psalm 108:

  • 1. What does this psalm tell me about God?
  • 2. What does this psalm tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

    1. God is worthy of all our trust, praise, and honor, and He is sovereign over the nations.

    2. People were created to trust, praise, and honor God. We find confidence and satisfaction when we rest in Him.

Prayer: Dear great and trustworthy God, thank You for the confidence I can have in Your never-failing love. Your faithfulness cannot be measured. It reaches further than the outer limits of the vast universe You have created. It is to You alone that Your people can look for rescue. Please do this since You have promised by Your holiness to do so. You are ruler over all the nations large and small, near and far.  You are sovereign over all our enemies, whether natural or supernatural. I affirm my faith in You, LORD, even when my emotions or circumstances might tell me that You have abandoned me or those about whom I’m concerned. Please help us because all human help is useless. I will forever praise You, awesome God. AMEN

Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

  • I will pray for God to rescue the people He loves and who love Him in Ukraine and wherever there is trouble in the world.
  • I will join with others at church and sing praises to our great God.
  • I will follow the news on CBN or other Christian outlets, so I know specific issues about which to be interacting with God.
  • I will make a list of ways I’m seeing God answer prayer.
