God Speaks
110 A psalm of David.
1 The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit in the place of honor at my right hand
until I humble your enemies,
making them a footstool under your feet.”
2 The Lord will extend your powerful kingdom from Jerusalem;
you will rule over your enemies.
3 When you go to war,
your people will serve you willingly.
You are arrayed in holy garments,
and your strength will be renewed each day like the morning dew.
4 The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow:
“You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord stands at your right hand to protect you.
He will strike down many kings when his anger erupts.
6 He will punish the nations
and fill their lands with corpses;
he will shatter heads over the whole earth.
7 But he himself will be refreshed from brooks along the way.
He will be victorious.
111
1 Praise the Lord!
I will thank the Lord with all my heart
as I meet with his godly people.
2 How amazing are the deeds of the Lord!
All who delight in him should ponder them.
3 Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty.
His righteousness never fails.
4 He causes us to remember his wonderful works.
How gracious and merciful is our Lord!
5 He gives food to those who fear him;
he always remembers his covenant.
6 He has shown his great power to his people
by giving them the lands of other nations.
7 All he does is just and good,
and all his commandments are trustworthy.
8 They are forever true,
to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity.
9 He has paid a full ransom for his people.
He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever.
What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has!
10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise him forever!

We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding each chapter: Psalms 110 and 111
1. What does this psalm tell me about God?
2. What does this psalm tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Psalm 110
1. In Psalm 110, God the Father is welcoming God the Son back from His mission of salvation as Jesus of Nazareth and proclaiming His position as both priest and king.
2. People (nations) are to humble themselves and submit to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This is the reward for His suffering and death on the cross and celebrates His resurrection.
Psalm 111: [“This psalm is a Hebrew acrostic poem; after the introductory note of praise, each line begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet.”] *
1. YHWH (the LORD) is God, and He is worthy to be praised using every letter of the alphabet. It’s like saying, “Let me count the ways God is great.”
2. People are to praise God because He is the one who created them and provides for them. [See many other ways God deserves our praise.]

Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding Psalms 110 and 111?
Dear Father God, thank You for sending Your beloved Son to be the Savior of the world. Thank You, Jesus for faithfully completing that mission. I appreciate and applaud You, LORD, for honoring Him in all the ways mentioned in Psalm 110. Holy Spirit, help me to honor Jesus and the Father here on earth in thought, word, and deed. One of the ways I can do that is to read aloud Psalm 111 as a prayer of praise. I look forward to honoring You, LORD and Triune God, for all eternity. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Psalms 110 and 111?
- I will pray for the LORD to humble the enemies of God and His people wherever they are, whatever their position in life, and whoever they think themselves to be.
- I will support (in whatever way I can) those who are striving to follow godly principles and lead others in the seven mountains of influence–religion, business, government, media, education, families and sports, and entertainment and the arts.
- I will try to write an acrostic poem or a list of things for which I can praise God.
- I will engage in a calm discussion with a relative, friend, or stranger about their view of God and life and then briefly explain my biblical understanding.
