God Speaks
God Calls and Makes a Covenant with Abram [Later called Abraham.]
Verse of the Day: “I [the LORD] will make you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoevver curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12: 2-3 NIV)

We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding Genesis 12-15
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Genesis 12
1. God chooses people to bless and serve Him as He sees fit.
2. People will express their faith in God by following His direction.
Genesis 13
1. God honors people who put others first.
2. People should not judge by what they see but by what God says on a matter.
Genesis 14
1. God will enable us to rescue people (even those with whom we are estranged), if we submit to Him.
2. People, sensitive to God, will give to others in ways that honor Him.
Genesis 15
1. God reveals the future to those who ollow His ways.
2. People should bring their problems to God and receive His answers.
Prayer: Dear Father Creator God, thank You for choosing people to bless and for using them to bless others. Thank You for choosing Abram for no apparent reason. Thank You also for choosing me in the same way. Thank You, Jesus, for rescuing everyone who calls on Your name and responds to the Father’s call as Abram did. You may not promise us a nation, a name, and blessing, but You do promise to be with us and to guide us with Your loving eye upon us. Praise Your holy name. Help us to be as trusting and obedient as he was. Our walk with You may also be a bit unsteady as his was, but help us to repent of our sins, build altars, and worship You to get back on track as he did as well. May all that I do bring glory to Jesus, for it is in His name I pray. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.) With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will listen to what God has to say in my spirit, check it against the Bible (the written Word of God), write it down and strive to do it.
- I will study the Bible and write down promises I find so that I can ask God in prayer if they are for me or not.
- I will “build an altar” by selecting an object or drawing/pasting a picture in an album/notebook to help me remember God’s promises to me. I will also thank Him as they are fulfilled.
- I will confess my sins to God in the presence of someone I trust so that they can help me and/or hold me accountable to “turn from my wicked ways.”
