Exodus 28-29

God Speaks

The Priests of Yahweh, Their Attire and Their Ordination

Verse of the Day: [The LORD God said to Moses,] “There [at the Tent of Meeting] I will meet with you and speak to you; there also I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory. . . . Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. They will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.” (Exodus 29: 42, 43, 45-46 NIV 2011)

We Respond

Reflection.

Consider the following questions regarding Exodus 28-29

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

Exodus 28

    1. God is very specific as to how His servants are to dress as they come into His presence.

    2. People should make sure that their words and actions are HOLY TO THE LORD.

Exodus 29

    1. God chooses people and consecrates them so that He might dwell among them and display His glory through them.

    2. It is not people who consecrate themselves to God, but God who consecrates people to Himself so that He may dwell among them.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding Exodus 28-29?

It is ultimately You, LORD God, who chooses the leaders who are meant to point people to Yourself, Your words and Your ways. These leaders should “come clean” before You, God, and before the people they are seeking to serve. Our offerings to You should be according to the best of what we have and truly represent a sacrifice. May we be completely committed to You, LORD God, from head to toe. Holy Spirit, help us strive to eliminate sin or evil from our lives and avoid it in the future. May fathers’ God-directed roles in their families be restored so their biblical values, their godly possessions, and their honorable occupations can be passed down to their sons and daughters. Our families, communities, culture and nation will benefit from encouraging and promoting this approach. O LORD God, may the blood of Jesus the Messiah make us as spotless as sacrificial lambs. May those who say that they trust and obey the LORD God, focus on You at least at the beginning and end of each day and grow to throughout the day. Then we will all bring You glory now and forever, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Exodus 28-29?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • As His servant, I will make sure that I dress appropriately when I gather with other people to seek God’s presence.
  • I will make sure that my attitudes, words and actions are HOLY TO THE LORD.
  • I will cooperate with God’s Spirit as He consecrates me so that He might dwell in me and display His glory through me.
  • I will openly and verbally declare, “The LORD is my God.” at least once every day this week.
