We Respond

Reflection

Consider the following questions regarding Leviticus 16-18

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

    Leviticus 16

    1. God has provided a way people’s sin to be atoned for.

    2. People are to follow God’s prescribed methods so that their sins can be atoned for and they can be forgiven (cleansed).

    Leviticus 17

    1. God considers the shedding of blood a serious offense as blood represents the life force of an animal or human being.

    2. God’s people are not to eat blood, but to consider it of great value.

    Leviticus 18

    1. God takes improper sexual relations among family members (incest) very seriously.

    2. People are not to dishonor family members especially in sexual matters, but to treat each other with respect.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding Leviticus 16-18?

O LORD God, thank You so much for providing the way for my sins to be atoned for (covered up) and taken away. Thank You, Jesus. for being that way. Holy Spirit living in me, please help me to follow God’s prescribed methods so that my sins can be atoned for and they can be forgiven (cleansed). LORD God, You consider the shedding of blood a serious offense because to You blood represents the life force of an animal or human being. People who want to honor You will not eat blood, but will consider it of great value. It represents the blood Jesus shed for us. You, LORD God, take improper sexual relations among family members (incest) very seriously. Your people are not to dishonor family members especially in sexual matters, but to treat each other with respect. The family is the foundation of society. When family members (both nuclear and extended family) treat each other and strangers well, it brings You glory, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Leviticus 16-18?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will thank the Lord Jesus for atoning for my sins. He is both the sin offering and the one who takes my sin away.
  • I will ask the LORD if He wants me to avoid eating blood out of respect for Jesus shedding His blood for me.
  • I will research what it means to “keep kosher”.
  • I will examine my life and belief system to see where I have adopted ungodly practices.
