The Ordination of Aaron and His Sons; They Begin Their Ministry; Two of Aaron’s Sons Dishonor God
Verse of the Day: [After the death of two of Aaron’s sons,] Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke of when He said: “‘Among those who approach me I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.'” (Leviticus 10:3 NIV 2011)

Reflection
Consider the following questions regarding Leviticus 8-10:
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Leviticus 8
1. God was very exact as to who were to be His priests, how they were to be dressed, and how they were to be ordained.
2. People, like Moses, Aaron and his sons, are to do everything as God commands.
Leviticus 9
1. God expresses His pleasure with the sacrifices of His people by a manifestation of His glory.
2. People are to manifest their pleasure with God by joy, worship, and awe.
Leviticus 10
1. God deals very severely with His people, like Nadab and Abihu, who don’t take His commands seriously and try to do things their own way.
2. The people of God are to distinguish between the holy and the common, between the ceremonially unclean and the clean, and they must teach those in their sphere of influence all the decrees the LORD has given.
Prayer
3. How might I pray regarding Leviticus 8-10?
Dear LORD God, please help me to follow Your instructions as faithfully as Moses did. May Your people gather together in unity of heart and purpose. May we carefully put on the clothing (armor) You have prescribed and provided. Help us to carry out the tasks You have assigned to each of us. May the temporary symbols on earth accurately reflect the eternal realities in Heaven. Thank You that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross purifies me and makes me right with You, LORD. May we bless those around us just as Aaron blessed the Israelites. O LORD may Your holy fire blaze forth demonstrating Your presence and glory. May people see this and shout with joy and fall to their knees in repentance and worship. O LORD, be severe if necessary but hold those (like Nadab and Abihu) accountable who flaunt Your specific instructions and try to do things their own way. When we are questioned about our actions in regard to a particular situation, help us to calmly give a reasonable explanation as Aaron did when questioned by Moses. May we all strive to bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action
(Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Leviticus 8-10? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will study and memorize the Ten Commandments so that I can carefully obey them.
- I will keep a journal of where I see God manifesting His glory in everyday life as well as in “miracles.”
- I will express my joy, worship, thanksgiving, and awe to the LORD God as I review this journal.
- I will ask God the Holy Spirit to help me to distinguish between the holy and the common, between the ceremonially unclean and the clean, and to teach those in my sphere of influence all the decrees the LORD has given.
