We Respond

Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding Numbers 8-10:

1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

Numbers 8

1. The LORD God gives His people specific instructions if they will just listen and obey. His directions are not arbitrary or confusing but for people’s good.

2. People frequently choose to follow others or go their own way, but in this chapter, the Israelites obeyed His instructions for ordaining the Levites.

Numbers 9

1. God has prescribed various ceremonies and traditions to help us to remember and reflect on His goodness to us.

2. People need ceremonies and traditions (the Passover or the Lord’s Supper) to help us remember what God has done for us in the past, but we must guard against forgetting their meaning and letting them become mere rituals.

Numbers 10

1. God sometimes gives people visible and tangible evidence of His presence as with the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant and the cloud of the LORD,

2. The LORD’s people need strong, godly leaders like Moses to help them focus their attention on Him.

Prayer:

3. How might I pray regarding Numbers 8-10?

O LORD God, there is none like You. All of the man-made gods require those who worship them to serve and provide for them, but You as a good Father, instruct, guide, and provide for those who follow You. May I and all Your other people continue to trust and obey You. Your way is always best. Remind us of Your gracious provision in the past as we celebrate special times like Passover and the LORD’s Supper. LORD, grant Your people strong, godly leaders like Moses to help us focus our attention on all that You are. Then the nations will bring You praise and glory, LORD. AMEN

Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Numbers 8-10? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will listen for the inner prompting of the Holy Spirit as I read the Bible and interact with the LORD in prayer daily.
  • I will write down what I learn in a journal so that I can review it periodically.
  • I will research how the Lord’s Supper relates to Passover and avoid missing an opportunity to celebrate it.
  • I will memorize Numbers 10: 35-36 to use when I rise up and when I lie down.
