Reflection
Consider the following questions regarding 1 Chronicles 3-5
> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
1 Chronicles 3
1. God knew all about David’s descendants before any of them were born.
2. David had at least six sons before his encounter with Bathsheba.
1 Chronicles 4
1. God decides to whom He grants requests (His will).
2. People are free to bring their requests to a loving Father God.
1 Chronicles 5
1. God will answer the prayers of people who cry out to Him if they trust in and obey Him.
2. People bring trouble on themselves when they run after gods other than the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob-Israel.
Prayer
> 3. How might I pray regarding 1 Chronicles 3-5?
Dear eternal and all-knowing God, You knew all about David’s descendants before any of them were born. You knew about me and my descendants as well. Holy Spirit, draw the people I love to a personal, interactive relationship with You. I know that, through the ups and downs of our lives, Your purposes will be accomplished. David had at least six wives and as many sons before his encounter with Bathsheba. He had no excuse to fulfill any sexual desires through her. Thankfully, You forgave him on the basis of his repentance and faith in Your promised Messiah, whom You chose to send as one of his progeny. LORD God, You decide to whom You grant. requests. Your will is always accomplished, but You allow people the freedom to bring their requests to our loving Father God. You will answer the prayers of those people who cry out to You if they trust in and obey You alone. Other people bring trouble on themselves when they run after gods other than You, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob-Israel. May increasing numbers of people follow the path of the former rather than the latter. May all who repent and follow You and Your ways bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to 1 Chronicles 3-5?
With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will research to determine how my ancesters followed the LORD.
- I will praise God for forgiving and removing my sins on the basis of Jesus death on the cross.
- I will talk with my children or grandchilren about forgiveness and moral strength through faith in Jesus.
- I will reject enticements to follow other so called gods.
