God Speaks

The Levites: Their Geneological Records, Their Duties and Their Residential Assignments

Verse of the Day: “Their fellow Levites were assigned to all the other duties of the tabernacle, the house of God. But Aaron and his descendants were the ones who presented offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense in connection with all that was done in the Most Holy Place, making atonement for Israel,  in accordance with all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.” (1 Chronicles 6:48-49 NIV 2011)

We Respond

Reflection

Consider the following questions regarding 1 Chronicles 6

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

1 Chronicles 6

    1. God superintends all aspects of people’s lives while also giving them freedom of choice.

    2. People should acknowledge God’s sovereignty and cooperate with Him in His plans.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding 1 Chronicles 6?

O Great and Awesome God, You created everything that exists. Therefore, You have the right to superintend all aspects of people’s lives. In Your love and wisdom, You have given human beings the freedom of choice. In a free society, we can choose where we live, who we will marry, what our occupation will be, who will rule over us and what we do with and to our bodies. Only You know the ultimate consequences of our choices. Please give us the wisdom to acknowledge Your sovereignty, LORD God, and to cooperate with You and Your plans in every aspect of our lives. Only then will we be truly happy and able to bring You the glory You deserve, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to 1 Chronicles 6?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will thank the LORD for how He has made me and shaped my life.
  • I will spend time each morning in “listening” for God’s direction for that day.
  • I will set aside (put to death) my goals for my life and seek to fulfill (put on) God’s objectives instead.
  • I will seek to serve God well wherever He has placed me today.
