We Respond

Reflection.

Consider the following questions regarding Exodus 13-15

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

Psalm 121

1. The LORD God is the Maker of heaven and earth who watches over those who fear Him.

2. People are to look to God for help, not other human beings or objects like the mountains, the sun, or the moon.

Psalm 123

1. God is enthroned in Heaven and is the source of mercy.

2. People are to look to the LORD for mercy and for relief from the scoffing and arrogance of others.

Psalm 124

1. God is on the side of those who turn to Him for help.

2. Even God’s faithful people sometimes feel overwhelmed.

Psalm 125

1. God is good and does good to those whose hearts are in tune with Him.

2. Whether people are good or wicked is determined by how they respond to God and/or other people.

Psalm 128

1. God is to be feared (held in highest honor and esteem) above anything or anyone else.

2. People are meant to enjoy their children and grandchildren.

Psalm 129

1. God is good, and He frees those who love Him from the ropes and chains of slavery.

2. People who hate the godly will be turned back in shameful defeat.

Psalm 130

1. God offers forgiveness so that people might learn to fear Him.

2. People are to hope in the LORD, His word, and His unfailing love.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding Psalms 121, 123-125, 128-130?

O LORD God, the Maker of heaven and earth You watch over all those who fear You (including me). When people look to You, God, for help, they find it in abundancce. Looking to ourselves, other human beings or objects like the mountains, the sun, or the moon is futile. You, LORD God are enthroned in Heaven, and Jesus Christ is the true source of the mercy and grace we so desperately need. Please help people (including myself) to look to You alone, LORD, for mercy and for relief from the scoffing and arrogance of others. God, You are on the side of those who turn to You for help, but at times, even Your faithful people feel overwhelmed. Father God, You are so good and do such good to those whose hearts are in tune with You. We can determine whether people are good or wicked by looking at how they respond to You and/or other people. Do they fear You (hold You in highest honor and esteem You) above anything or anyone else? You designed people to enjoy others, especially their children and grandchildren. In Your great goodness, You are continually freeing those who love You from the ropes and chains of all kinds of slavery. You promise that people who hate those who are striving to be godly will be turned back in shameful defeat. LORD God, thank You for offering forgiveness so that people can learn to fear You. As more and more people put their hope in the Lord Jesus, His word, and His unfailing love, we will bring You glory, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Psalms 121, 123-125, 128-130?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • When I am overwhelmed, I will look to the LORD God first before consulting anyone or anything else.
  • I will look for opportunities to gather with others to support Israel, the Jews and all those who praise and worship the LORD.
  • I will thank the LORD for His actions on behalf of all those who fear Him.
  • I will fear the LORD, put my hope in Him and walk in obedience so that I can enjoy the benefits of His mercy and grace.
