We Respond

Reflection

Consider the following questions regarding Psalms 3-4, 12-13. 28, 55

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

    Psalms 3

    1. From the LORD God comes deliverance. He sustains His trusting, obedient people.

    2. People generally rise up against the righteous, saying, “God will not deliver him.”

    Psalms 4

    1. God is righteous, merciful and faithful. He hears and answers when we call to Him.

    2. People turn God’s glory into shame; they love delusions and turn to anything instead of the LORD and make it their god.

    Psalms 12

    1. God’s words are like pure gold and refined silver

    2. People are unfaithful, disloyal, flatterers, deceptive liars and disrespectful of God, authority and law and order.

    Psalms 13

    1. God gives light to our eyes, breath to our lungs, rescue to our bodies and salvation to our souls.

    2. As people wrestle with thoughts that God may have abandoned them to their ruthless enemies, they need to trust in His unfailing love and praise Him for all the good He has done for them.

    Psalms 28

    1. God is the One who gives strength and protection to those who put their trust in Him.

    2. Wicked people do evil to their neighbors, harbor malice in their hearts and have no regard for the LORD and what He has done.

    Psalms 55

    1. The LORD God has been enthroned through the ages and does not change.

    2. When people have no fear of God, they become bloodthirsty and deceitful.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding Psalms 3-4, 12-13. 28, 55?

O LORD God, from You alone comes deliverance. You sustain Your trusting, obedient people. Wicked people rise up against the righteous, saying, “God will not deliver him.” But You, God, are righteous, merciful and faithful. You hear and answer when we call on You. People are continually turning Your glory into shame. They love delusions and turn to anything instead of the LORD and make it their god. Your words are like pure gold and refined silver. People are unfaithful, disloyal, flatterers, deceptive liars, disrespectful of You, the true and living God. They disrespect authority and pervert justice, law and order. LORD God, You give light to our eyes, breath to our lungs, rescue to our bodies and salvation to our souls.  As we people wrestle with thoughts that say You have abandoned us to our ruthless enemies, we need to trust in Your unfailing love and praise You for all the good You have done for us. You are the One who gives strength and protection to those of us who put our trust in You. When we do evil to our neighbors, harbor malice in our hearts and have no regard for the LORD and what He has done, we are wicked people. O LORD, forgive us, not for our sake, but for the sake of Your mighty name and the name of Jesus who suffered and died so that our sins can be forgiven and removed.  You, LORD God have been enthroned through the ages and do not change. You are to be held in highest regard. When people have no fear of God, they become bloodthirsty and deceitful. But when we develop a holy fear of You, we will bring You glory, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Psalms 3-4, 12-13. 28, 55?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will continue to pray for the LORD to deliver a friend who is trustingly obeying the LORD.
  • I will speak God’s truth to some people I know who are loving delusions.
  • I will visit a friend in the hospital who needs God’s breath in her lungs (both physically and spiritually).
  • I will pray for the LORD  to deal with some people who are bloodthirsty and deceitful to either save their souls or remove them from public office.
