Psalm 50, 53, 60, 75

God Speaks

All People Are Corrupt, but the LORD Rescues Those Who Turn To Him

Verse of the Day: The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good. God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. (Psalm 53: 1-3 NIV 2011)

We Respond

Reflection.

Consider the following questions regarding Psalms 50, 53, 60, 75

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

 Psalms 50

    1. Almighty God calls His creation and the people He created to account.

    2. People are to honestly thank, not try to placate, the LORD God.

Psalms 53

    1. God searches people to see who is doing good, but He finds no one.

    2. Evildoers consume God-fearing people as if eating bread, but God will deal with them in His time and in His way.

Psalms 60

    1. It is God who gives us victory; He tramples down our foes.

    2. People who reverently fear and obey God will be protected.

Psalms 75

    1. It is God who judges whether people are wicked or righteous; He brings down the former and lifts up the latter.

    2. God’s people can’t help but praise His Name and tell of His wonderful deeds.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding Psalms 50, 53, 60, 75?

O Almighty God, You call all creation and human beings to account. People should honestly thank, not try to placate, You, LORD God. You search people’s lives and hearts to see who is doing good, but You find no one unless they are depending on You. Evildoers seem to be consuming God-fearing people as if eating bread, but You will deal with them in Your time and in Your way. It is You, LORD, who gives us victory; You trample down our foes. May many people reverently fear and obey You and be protected. Judge which people are wicked or righteous; bring down the former and lift up the latter. Then people won’t be able to stop praising Your Name and telling of Your wonderful deeds. That’s how we will all bring You glory, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Psalms 50, 53, 60, 75?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will honestly thank the LORD for His grace and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
  • I will ask God the Holy Spirit to search my heart and life and point out where I might be deceiving myself that I am doing good when I am not.
  • I will reverently fear the LORD in some specific way.
  • I will praise the LORD and tell of all His wonderful deeds.
