The Queen of Sheba’s Visit and the Rest of Solomon’s Reign
Verse of the Day: [May our lives cause people to honor God just as Solomon’s wisdom and reign impressed the Queen of Sheba and other world leaders. She said,] “Praise be to the LORD your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on his [David’s] throne as king to rule for the LORD your God. Because of the love of your God for Israel and His desire to uphold them forever, He has made you king over them, to maintain justice and righteousness.” (2 Chronicles 9:8 NIV 2011)

We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding : 1 Kings 10-11, 2 Chronicles 9
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
1 Kings 10
1. The LORD God is the ultimate source of all blessing and prosperity.
2. As the Queen of Sheba did, people will notice when God blesses His people and credit Him for it.
1 Kings 11
1. God holds people accountable for the instructions and blessings He has given them.
2. People often forget God and His instructions after He blesses them.
2 Chronicles 9
1. God pours His blessings out on those He chooses and who look to and obey Him,
2. People are sometimes so caught up in the things of this world that they forget God just as Solomon did.
Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding 1 Kings 10-11 and 2 Chronicles 9?
Dear gracious and loving God, thank You, LORD, for all the blessings You have bestowed on me, especially for the blessing of Jesus shedding His blood on the cross so that I could be set free and be made part of Your family and kingdom, O God. I commit to expressing my gratitude both privately and publicly. Help me to use these blessings to glorify You and to serve Your people, not just accumulating them for my own pleasure or aggrandizement. Keep me quick to give You credit for my rescue and success. Enable me to join with others to promote the justice and righteousness You provide. May everything we do bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to 1 Kings 10-11 and 2 Chronicles 9? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will thank the LORD for all the blessings He has bestowed on me. I will do this both privately and publicly.
- I will do my part to promote justice and righteousness as the Queen of Sheba gave Solomon credit for doing.
- I will enlist the assistance of a mentor or partner to help me to stay faithful to the LORD.
- I will join a local congregation to help me (and others) to remember to worship only the Triune God–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
