God Speaks
Hezekiah’s Reaction and Prayer in Regard to Sennacherib’s Threat
Verse of the Day: [In Psalm 80, verses 3, 7, and 19 are identical except for an increasing intensity.] Restore us, [O God; (v. 3), God Almighty; (v. 7), LORD God Almighty; (v. 19)] make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. (Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 NIV 2011)

We Respond
Reflection:
Consider the following questions regarding 2 Kings 19 and Psalms 46, 80, 135:
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
2 Kings 19
1. God is the Almighty Creator of the universe and can be trusted to deal with any problem we may face.
2. People are to bring their problems to the LORD as King Hezekiah did, then ask Him how He wants to solve them.
Psa. 46
1. The LORD God certainly is the source of refuge and strength, protection, and security to all who run to Him in faith.
2. When people fear the LORD and trust in Him, they need not fear any disaster that may befall them.
Psa. 80
1. God is the one who saves both individuals and nations or people groups.
2. People must acknowledge and turn or turn back to the LORD God.
Psa. 135
1. The LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants.
2. People will become like whatever they focus their attention on or worship.
Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding 2 Kings 19, Psa. 46, 80, 135?
O Great and Awesome God, there is no God like You. You created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. You created human beings and know everything about them. You know our outward actions and our inmost motives. You know how everything works and the consequences of all our ideas, attitudes, and actions. You already know what the outcome will be for the problem I am bringing You now. Please help me to see both the problem and the solution from Your perspective. Rescue us (me) from the insults and the actions the enemy (ours and Yours) has planned against us, Your people. Show us what You want us to say or do, and then, Holy Spirit, by Your power, work in us to carry it out. Then all the kingdoms of the earth will know that You alone, O LORD, are God, and we will bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to 2 Kings 19, Psa. 46, 80, 135? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will, first, focus on who the LORD is and what He has done in the past.
- I will respectfully lay out the problem as I understand it and turn it over to God, without me telling Him what to do.
- I will actively and patiently wait for God’s answer from His perspective.
- I will immediately do whatever He says without grumbling or complaining.
- I will thank and trust the LORD whatever happens.
