We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding Zechariah 10-14:
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Zechariah 10
1. God will strengthen Judah and save Israel; He will restore them because He has compassion on them.
2. God’s people will return to the land He gave them and be strengthened, victorious, and happy.
Zechariah 11
1. God will remove unfaithful shepherds (rulers) and care for the sheep Himself until they turn against Him, and He rejects them and their new, wicked leader.
2. People are easily led away from God by deceitful leaders which results in their harm and misery.
Zechariah 12
1. The LORD God is the one who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the human spirit.
2. At some point, the people of Jerusalem will be filled with a spirit of grace, prayer, and unity (in both their tribes and families).
Zechariah 13
1. The LORD God will (has) set up a fountain (Jesus) to cleanse people from all their sin and impurity.
2. After two-thirds have been removed, the remaining people will be refined by fire from God and say, “The LORD is our God.”
Zechariah 14
1. At the appointed time, God’s anointed Messiah (Jesus) will come and rescue His people and reign upon the earth.
2. People from all over the earth will come to Jerusalem to worship God.
Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding Zechariah 10-14?
O LORD God, it is You who chose Abraham and his descendants to conquer and occupy the land of the Canaanites. It was not by their own plan or power that they accomplished this. We need You again to strengthen Judah (the Jews) and save Israel. We trust You to restore them because You have compassion on them. You promise that all the people who belong to You by faith will return to the land You gave them and be strengthened, victorious, and happy. In Your time and in Your way, LORD God, You will remove unfaithful shepherds (rulers) and care for the sheep (people) Yourself. But if they turn against You and reject You, You will reject them and their new, wicked leader. Unfortunately, even people who claim to know You are easily led astray by deceitful leaders which only results in harm and misery. LORD God, You are the one who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the human spirit. In Your perfect timing, You will fill the people of Jerusalem with a spirit of grace, prayer, and unity (in both their tribes and families). You, LORD God, have set up a fountain (Jesus’ blood) to cleanse people from all their sin and impurity. People who turn to You in faith will be refined by fire and say, “The LORD is our God.” At Your appointed time, Your anointed Messiah Jesus will come and rescue His people and reign upon the earth. People from all over the world will come to Jerusalem to worship You and bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Zechariah 10-14? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will investigate, fight against, and vote to remove wicked leaders in whatever area of society they rise up.
- I will thank God for all He has created especially for my own life–body, soul, and spirit.
- I will declare to all who will listen, “The LORD is my God.”
- I will pray for the coming and reign of Messiah.
