Jacob/Israel and His Family Move to Egypt
Verse of the Day: [When we are faced with a major move in our lives may we meet with God and have Him reassure us as He did Jacob.] “I am God, the God of your father,” He said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s hand will close your eyes.” (Genesis 46:3-4 NIV 2011)

We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding Genesis 46-47
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Genesis 46
1. God promises to be with the people who will trust and obey Him whatever their circumstance in life.
2. People should be willing to move or do whatever God commands the head of their household.
Genesis 47
1. God equips people like Joseph to be in charge of their families and perhaps, whole nations.
2. People are generally willing to surrender their money, possessions, land and bodies (in slavery) in order to stay alive.
Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding Genesis 46-47?
O Sovereign Creator God, thank You for being so tender as You had this intimate interaction with Jacob. Holy Spirit, please help me to live a clean life so that I can have such interactions with Father God. Thank You, Jesus, for making that possible through Your life, death and resurrect. May I always be willing to move or do whatever You, LORD God, command me. Equip me (or anyone else You lead me to pray for) to humbly take charge of anyone or anything You put in my care. Help me never to surrender my money, possessions, land, mind or body to anyone but You, LORD. When I put You first in my life, You will grant me eternal life. You will fill me with Your Spirit and enable me to bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Genesis 46-47? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will do something specific to demonstrate to others (especially the children in my life) how to have an intimate relationship with Almighty God.
- I will thank God for some specific promises He has made me in the Bible.
- I will interact with God about how He wants me to manage my money, possessions, land, mind and body.
- I will take definite action in honoring my parents, especially in regard to their final wishes.
