God Speaks
Israelites Assigned Territories by Lot; Cities of Refuge; Towns for the Levites
Verse of the Day: “The LORD gave [the Israelites] rest on every side, just as He had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; The LORD gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” (Joshua 21:45-45 NIV 2011)

We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding Joshua 19-21:
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Joshua 19-21 [Since these chapters address the boundaries of the territories allotted to the various tribes, the cities given to the Levites and the cities of refuge, they will be handled as a unit.]
1. God keeps His promises. “Not a single one of all the good promises the LORD had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything He had spoken came true.” (Joshua 21:45 NLT)
2. People need to protect whoever takes a life accidentally or unintentionally from revenge by a representative of the injured party until the person’s innocence or guilt can be proven.
Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding Joshua 19-21?
Dearest Father God, thank You that You do know best and have good plans for my future. I trust You to keep Your promises as You did to the Israelites. Please fulfill Your promises to all those who love, fear (stand in awe of), obey, and serve You in whatever capacity. Please raise up people to protect, support, and encourage anyone who is being accused of misbehavior or a crime until their innocence or guilt can be proven beyond doubt. Put a stop to any lies, false accusations, insinuations, threats. intimidations, character, and career assassinations, but bring the guilty to justice either now or in eternity. Bring Your all-knowing justice, mercy, and grace to bear in each situation. O LORD, reward Jesus for His great sacrifice by having multitudes of people turn to Him in faith. Then we will all bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Joshua 19-21? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will accept wherever God places me in my life. He knows what’s best for me.
- I will show respect for and contribute to the support of Christian workers–pastors, missionaries, parachurch organizations.
- I will protect and/or stand in support of anyone who is being accused of misbehavior or a crime until their innocence or guilt can be proven beyond doubt.
- I will thank God for all the promises He has kept to Israel, to His children through the ages, and to me personally.
