We Respond

Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding 1 Chronicles 1-2:

1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

I Chronicles 1

1. God keeps track of His people, both groups and individuals.

2. People need to know their history and/or background.

I Chronicles 2

1. God knows the past, present, and future of every human being.

2. People are important to God even if they themselves or other people don’t recognize it.

Prayer:

3. How might I pray regarding 1 Chronicles 1-2?

Thank You, LORD God, for creating Adam and Eve, our first parents. Thank You for preserving Noah and his family when You covered the earth with the flood. Thank You that You know my name (and everything about me), and You are teaching me to know Yours. Even though You divided people by confusing their languages (perhaps in Peleg’s day), You are in the process of reuniting us in Christ Jesus. Thank You for women like Keturah who comfort and serve widowers like Abraham after their wives have died. Thank You for raising up men who are strong and mighty like Nimrod. Please send more of them in this day and age to stand for truth and godliness. Please raise up skilled successors for strong leaders for Your kingdom on earth who have recently graduated to Heaven or moved on to other fields of service. Please mete out Your justice against those who contemptuously disobey Your instructions like Er and Achan. Please prepare the way for those who seek to follow Your ways like Boaz and David. May Your people always seek to bring glory to You, LORD. AMEN

Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to I Chronicles 1-2? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will surrender to God to make sure my name is written in the Lamb’s book of life like Adam, Noah, and Abraham and many of the people listed here.
  • I will faithfully carry out the task God has assigned to me like Noah building the ark.
  • I will encourage a young person I know to work hard and become a mighty warrior for the LORD.
  • I will encourage an older person to stay strong and faithful to the LORD like Caleb.
