We Respond

Reflection.

Consider the following questions regarding Psalms  25, 29, 33, 36, 39

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

Psalm  25

    1. The LORD God is good and upright, loving and faithful. He guides and instructs those who will humbly learn from Him.

    2. People are full of sin and iniquity, but they can be forgiven if they turn back to God in trusting obedience.

Psalm  29

    1. The LORD God is holy, glorious, powerful and majestic.

    2. People are to respond to Him in praise.

Psalm  33

    1. The LORD God loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His unfailing love.

    2. People are not saved by their great strength–of body, mind or character. They must rely on and hope in the LORD.

Psalm 36

    1. God’s love, faithfulness and righteous surpass the length of the heavens and the strength of the mountains.

    2. People are wicked if there is no fear of God before their eyes.

Psalm 39

    1. The LORD God is mankind’s only hope of rescue from guilt, folly and scorn.

    2. People’s lives are weak and fleeting, and they cannot stand up under God’s judgment, rebuke and discipline–apart from His mercy and grace.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding Psalms 25, 29, 33, 36, 39?

You, LORD God, are good and upright, loving and faithful. You guide and instruct those who will humbly learn from You.  We people are full of sin and iniquity, but we can be forgiven if we turn back to You in trusting obedience. LORD, You are holy, glorious, powerful and majestic. Other people and I can’t help but respond to You in unending praise and thanksgiving. You love righteousness and justice; the earth is full of Your unfailing love. We are not saved by our own great strength–of body, mind or character. We must rely on and hope in You,  LORD. Holy Spirit, please work in hearts and minds so that multitudes will do so, for the praise of Your grace and glory. LORD God, Your love, faithfulness and righteousness surpass the length of the heavens and the strength of the mountains. People are wicked because there is no fear of God before their eyes. Please do whatever it takes for waves of the holy fear to cover my nation and the whole earth. You, LORD, are mankind’s only hope of rescue from guilt, folly and scorn.  Our lives are weak and fleeting, and we cannot stand up under Your judgment, rebuke and discipline–apart from Your mercy and grace. Through the work of Your powerful and persuasive Holy Spirit, we can all be turned around to live for the praise of Your grace and glory, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Psalms  25, 29, 33, 36, 39?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will read aloud and personalize all of the ways the LORD is praised in these psalms
  • I will confess my sins, iniquities and weaknesses to the LORD and ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse and strenghten me.
  • I will ask the LORD to foil the plans of the wicked ones to disrupt my family, community, nation and world, to thwart all their evil purposes and schemes.
  • I will keep a careful watch on my ways and guard what I say so that I will be less likely to sin against God or hurt other people.
