We Respond

Reflection.

Consider the following questions regarding Psalms 32, 51, 86, 122

> 1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

> 2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

Psalm 32

    1. The LORD God forgives the sins and removes the iniquity of those who turn to Him in trusting obedience.

    2. People should not keep silent but confess their transgressions to the LORD.

Psalm 51

    1. Only the LORD God can blot out people’s transgressions and give them new, clean hearts.

    2. People cannot cleanse sin from their lives.

    Psalm 86

    1. The LORD God hears and answers the cries of people for mercy. In love, He responds with forgiveness, cleansing and compassion.

    2. People, in turn, praise and glorify His name by telling of His marvelous deeds forever.

Psalm 122

    1. God is the One who established and is building up Jerusalem.

    2. People are to work and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Prayer

> 3. How might I pray regarding Psalms 32, 51, 86, 122?

O LORD God, forgive the sins and remove the iniquity of myself, my family, my community and my nation. Holy Spirit, move among us so that we turn to the LORD in trusting obedience. May people no longer keep silent but confess their transgressions to You, LORD. Only You, God, can blot out people’s transgressions and give them new, clean hearts. We cannot cleanse sin from our lives. Only You, LORD Jesus, pleading the blood You shed at the cross can do that. LORD God, hear and answer the cries of people for mercy. In Your great love and unmerited favor, respond with forgiveness, cleansing and compassion. Revive and renew us, LORD. People, in turn, will praise and glorify Your name by telling of Your marvelous deeds forever. You are the One, God, who is establishing and building up both the physical and spiritual eternal Jerusalem. May people around the world be working and praying for the ultimate peace of Jerusalem. I know that will bring You great pleasure and glory, LORD. AMEN

Action (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

> 4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Psalms 32, 51, 86, 122?

With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • I will make a list of the sins that the LORD brings to mind, then write over them in red, “Forgiven! Covered by the blood of Christ. Paid in full.”
  • I will confess my personal sins to God daily, following King David’s pattern in Psalm 51.
  • I will turn to Psalm 86 and read it aloud from the heart whenever I feel under attack from this physical world, the evil supernatural realm or my own sinful nature.
  • I will pray for and actively seek the peace and prosperity of Jerusalem.
