The LORD Condemns Wicked Leaders But He Will Rescue the Oppressed Who Trust and Obey Him
Verse of the Day: [Pray with me that the following verses will become a reality soon.] Therefore this is what the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, says to the descendants of Jacob: “No longer will Jacob be ashamed; no longer will their faces grow pale. When they see among them their children, the work of My hands, they will keep My name holy; they will acknowledge the holiness of the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel. Those who are wayward in spirit will gain understanding; those who complain will accept instruction.” (Isaiah 29:22-24 NIV 2011)

We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding Isaiah 28-30:
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Isaiah 28
1. The LORD God is wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.
2. Many people are led astray and corrupted by alcohol and other intoxicants, but God has given them a firm foundation on which to build their lives.
Isaiah 29
1. In His time and in His way, God performs amazing wonders that even the wisest humans will not understand, and intelligence (artificial?) will seem to disappear or fade into the background.
2. Many people say that they belong to God and speak in honor of Him, but their hearts are not in it. Their religion is nothing but man-made rules.
Isaiah 30
1. The LORD God will defend those who stay true to Him. He will make His majestic voice heard and display the strength of His mighty arm against their enemies.
2. People often refuse to listen to or accept God’s truth.
Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding Isaiah 28-30?
Dear wonderful Counselor and all-wise God, when I keep You in control in my life instead of alcohol, drugs, or anything else, things go so much better. Thank You for the firm foundation that faith in Jesus Christ affords me. In Your time and in Your way, You will perform amazing wonders no human can explain. Jesus’ words and actions while He was here on earth demonstrated that. He put the wisest Jewish leaders to shame. LORD, I confess that even though I know that I belong to You, my heart is not right. Please clean me up and give me a new heart fully devoted to You and empowered by Your Spirit. Help me to be obedient to You, not just following man-made rules or ideologies. Holy Spirit, keep me true to the LORD and living the way He directs. Keep Your people, including me, from refusing to accept and apply God’s truth. Let Your majestic voice be heard. Also display Your mighty arm against Your enemies and ours. Then we will bring You glory, LORD. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Isaiah 28-30? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will interact with the LORD (both listening and talking) in order to receive His counsel and wisdom in a specific situation.
- I will intentionally avoid using alcohol, drugs, or anything that would hinder my hearing from the LORD.
- I will praise God for His wondrous works that I see all around me.
- I will speak the truth in love to someone I see is refusing to accept and apply God’s truth in their life, even to myself when necessary.
