God Speaks

The Glorious Results of Turning to the LORD; Sennacherib’s Threat Delivered by His Field Commander

Verse of the Day: Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong and do not fear; your God will come, He will come with vengence; with divine retribution He will come to save you.”  (Isaiah 35:3-4 NIV 2011)

We Respond

Reflection:
Consider the following questions regarding Isaiah 35-36:

1. What does this chapter tell me about God?

2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?

Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.

Isaiah 35

1. God has a beautiful, peaceful future planned for all of His creation.

2. Evil-minded people will not travel on the Highway of Holiness; only those who are redeemed by Him and walk in His ways will be allowed to travel on it.

Isaiah 36

1. God is the source of all truth and is willing to alert us if someone is lying to us if we will consult Him.

2. People who do not know the Truth (Jesus) can be deceived by the enemy.

Prayer:

3. How might I pray regarding Isaiah 35-36?

O LORD God, You truly are the source of all beauty, joy, strength, and freedom from fear. I long to see the display of Your glory and splendor. Use me, please, to minister to those who are fearful, weak, tired, disabled, or discouraged.  Please remove the ferocious beasts or other dangers from the path of those You have ransomed or redeemed. Crown them with everlasting joy and gladness instead, just as You promised. When the enemy comes to persuade us to join him by spreading lies about our leaders, help us cling to what is Your established truth. Help me and others cling to Your scriptures which convey Your perspective. Holy Spirit, help us to keep our eyes on Jesus. Then we will always bring You glory, LORD. AMEN

Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)

4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Isaiah 35-36? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:

  • When I am confused about who is telling me the truth, I will ask God the Holy Spirit to reveal it and to help me to act on it.
  • I will thank the LORD daily for His creation and the future He has planned.
  • I will check out the news I am receiving and ask the LORD to verify what is true from His perspective.
  • I will talk calmly and respectfully with someone with whom I disagree, trying to clearly understand and respect their viewpoint whether we end up agreeing or not.
