God Speaks
The LORD Gives Zechariah Visions and Dreams of His Plans for Zion’s Future
Verse of the Day: ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will be its glory within.’ (Zechariah 2:5 NIV 2011)

We Respond
Reflection: Consider the following questions regarding Zechariah 1-4:
1. What does this chapter tell me about God?
2. What does this chapter tell me about the human beings He created?
Here is one possible answer to each of these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit if there are any others for you personally to ponder.
Zechariah 1
1. God is continually calling His people to return to Him, so that they can truly be His people again.
2. People are to turn away from their evil ways and stop their evil practices. Then they will truly experience being God’s people again.
Zechariah 2
1. God is drawing His repentant people back to a peaceful, prosperous life in Jerusalem and the land of Israel.
2. All humanity will one day shout for joy over the LORD once again choosing Jerusalem as His own city.
Zechariah 3
1. God will confront Satan and reject his accusations against His chosen ones.
2. People are to submit and cooperate with the cleansing, transforming work the LORD God will do in and for them.
Zechariah 4
1. It is not by force or by strength, but by the Spirit of the LORD that God’s people will overcome their enemies.
2. People will shout: May God bless it! May God bless it!
Prayer:
3. How might I pray regarding Zechariah 1-4?
Dearest LORD God of all the earth, You are continually calling people to return to You. You will never reject anyone who humbly does so. They will truly become Your people. If anyone turns from their evil ways and stops their evil practices, they will fully experience what it means to be children of God. LORD, You are in the process of drawing repentant people into a peaceful, prosperous life in Jerusalem and the land of Israel as well as the new heaven and new earth You will create. All humanity (and all of creation) will one day shout for joy over the LORD once again choosing Jerusalem as His own city. At the appointed time, LORD God, You will confront Satan and reject his accusations against Your chosen ones. In the meantime, please help people to submit to and cooperate with the cleansing, transforming work the Spirit of the Living God will do in and for them. For it is not by force or by strength, but by the Spirit of the LORD that God’s people will overcome their enemies. Then all the people who have turned to You in faith will shout: May God bless it! May God bless it! We will bring You glory forever, LORD. AMEN
Action: (Ask God, the Holy Spirit, if He wants you to work on one of the suggestions below or something else more personal that He points out.)
4. What action does the LORD want me to take in response to Zechariah 1-4? With the help of God’s Holy Spirit:
- I will ask the Holy Spirit to help me to recognize any wicked ways in my life and to stop all evil practices.
- I will pray and work for all people to have a peaceful, prosperous life in Jerusalem and all the land of Israel (including Gaza and the West Bank).
- I will submit to and cooperate with the cleansing, transforming work the LORD God wants to do in and for me.
- I will overcome the enemies of my soul, not by force or by strength, but by the Spirit of the LORD. Then I will shout: May God bless it! And let others know that they can do the same.
